Content Planning That Actually Works: From Idea to Upload

Alex Rivera, Content Strategist

Stop struggling with content ideas. Learn the systematic approach successful creators use to plan, create, and publish consistently.

Consistent content creation is the biggest challenge new creators face. Here's the systematic approach our most successful grant recipients use to never run out of ideas.

The Content Pillar Method

Identify 3-5 core topics (pillars) your content will focus on. For example, a fitness creator might use: Workouts, Nutrition, Motivation, Equipment Reviews, and Personal Journey.

Batch Content Planning

Plan content in monthly batches:

  • Week 1: Brainstorm 20-30 content ideas
  • Week 2: Create detailed outlines for top 12 ideas
  • Week 3: Film/create 4-6 pieces of content
  • Week 4: Edit and schedule content for the following month

The 80/20 Rule

  • 80% of content should provide value (education, entertainment, inspiration)
  • 20% can be promotional or personal

Content Calendar Template

Use a simple spreadsheet with columns for:

  • Date
  • Platform
  • Content Type
  • Topic/Title
  • Status (Planned/Created/Published)
  • Performance Notes

Idea Generation Techniques

  1. Answer Questions: What do people ask you about your niche?
  2. Trend Adaptation: How can you put your spin on trending topics?
  3. Behind the Scenes: Show your process, failures, and learning moments
  4. Collaboration: Partner with other creators for fresh perspectives
  5. Audience Polls: Ask your followers what they want to see

Repurposing Strategy

Create once, publish everywhere:

  • Long-form YouTube video → Short clips for TikTok/Instagram
  • Blog post → Twitter thread → Instagram carousel
  • Podcast episode → Quote graphics → Newsletter content

Success Story

Emma, a lifestyle creator, went from posting randomly to following a structured content calendar. Her engagement increased 300% in three months, leading to her first brand partnership worth £500.
